Tal-Kaptan
Sunday 13th April 2008 could not end in a funnier, more critical way for me and my friends - we went out and decided to meet at the Valletta Waterfront. After converging in front of Agenda Bookshop, we strolled our way towards Tal-Kaptan Restaurant.
Upon arrival, I asked a waiter for a table for 8 people on the outside. We continued the conversation and did not notice that we had received no reply until after about 7minutes one of us remarked, "When's our table coming?" This was just the first of a series of questions one cannot help asking himself and those around him...
I asked another waitress for a table for 8 people and clearly told her that I had already asked this question to another waiter. She told me that she'd ask inside - just like the other guy had said. After waiting for about 15-20 minutes, I assertively told yet another waitress, "Listen, you're the third person I'm talking to this evening. The 2 who came before you seemed to have ignored us completely. I believe we are not asking for much - just a table for 8 people. Now if that is a problem, please tell me now so that we'll get going." She immediately told me to calm down even though I was still calm, some mothering which I certainly did not need at that time!
The evening continued with more funny stunts like these, for example:
- cold 'hot' chocolates arriving after 15-20 minutes of being ordered
- second hand side salads who stared you right in the face "We are definitely NOT fresh!"
- no bread with the Chicken dishes
- no eye contact from the waiters
- glasses and cutlery that were still dirty, seemingly just thrown away in some sort of dishwasher and expected to dry up and 'become' clean
The only positive thing was the pizza which was quite good...at least I ate a good pizza together with my friends!
